With a master teacher for a mother, and a jazz band leader for a father, Paul Hanson was destined to live a life of playing and teaching music. From the age of 3, Paul was living in the rehearsals of his father’s Big Band, and going home to set up his very own pots and pans to form a drum set. He had found his passion playing drums, and began studying with the L.A. Session players. Paul toured throughout the United States, Japan, and Germany during his early 20’s, playing with many different ensembles and theater groups as a multi percussionist. During his time off the road, he found opportunities to work with high school and college level groups as an instructor of percussion. At this time he also started working with movement and dance, choreographing performances and staging theater pieces. As life settled down, Paul grew roots and a small family, and decided to broaden his experience, returning to studies of concert percussion, and hand drumming through private instructions and classes at Cal Arts and CSUN. Paul is currently owner of One World Rhythm Ventura, co-director of percussion at Newbury Park High School, Director of Marching Percussion at Hart High School ,and Percussion Teaching Artist at New West Symphony Harmony Project. He lives in Ventura, CA with his son Decklan, and also enjoys chess, rock climbing, and yoga.
